Hyrachyidae Hyracodontidae Rhinocerotidae Rhinoceroses are large perissodactyl mammals characterized by thick, pleated skin and one or two horns on the nose; it is this characteristic that is at the origin of the name. These animals inhabit the savannas and tropical forests of Africa and Asia, belonging in the safari terminology to the group of wild animals called the big five, corresponding to the five most difficult animals to hunt: lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhinoceros. However, the hunting of these animals is officially prohibited in most countries where they still exist.
