Amniota

Amniots are all animals whose embryos are surrounded by an amniotic membrane. Reptiles, for example, belong to this group. Amniotes are a group of vertebrate tetrapods that include mammals and sauropsids. Amniotes are defined as having an embryonic development which includes the formation of several membranes: the amnion, the chorion and the allantoid. The amniotes develop directly in a typically terrestrial form, with limbs and a thick, stratified epithelium, rather than entering a larval stage followed by metamorphosis as in amphibians. In amniotes, the transition from periderm to a corneal epithelium, is triggered by a thyroid hormone, during embryonic development. The specific embryonic characteristics of the amniotes may reflect specializations of the eggs so that they can survive in drier environments. The size of the eggs and their great content in calf can benefit the direct development in forms of larger dimensions.
