Angina pectoris or angina pectoris is a chest pain due to the low supply of oxygen to the heart muscle; usually due to obstruction or spasms of the coronary arteries. Diseases in the coronary arteries, the main cause of angina, are due to atherosclerosis in the cardiac arteries. The term derives from the Greek ankhon and the Latin pectus, and can therefore be translated as "a strangulation of the chest." Angina attacks that worsen, occur during rest and last for more than 15 minutes may be symptoms of unstable angina or even a myocardial infarction.
