The word clone, is used to designate a group of individuals that have the same genetic characteristic. Individuals of a clone are originated by asexual reproduction. The clone was created in 1904 by the American botanist Herbert J. Webber, according to him, the clone is basically a set of individuals descended from a cell, set of cells, molecules or organisms genetically equal to that of a parent. Cloning is the natural or artificial process of clone production. The process of natural cloning occurs in some beings, such as bacteria and other unicellular organisms that perform their reproduction by the method of bipartition. In addition, the armadillo also produces a clone through polyembryony. In the case of humans, the natural clones are the univiteline twins, that is, they are beings that share the same genetic material, being originated from the division of the fertilized ovum. There are several techniques of artificial cloning. One of them allows to clone an animal from unfertilized eggs, and this process has been known since the 19th century.

O termo clone foi criado em 1904, pelo botânico norte-americano Herbert J. Webber, segundo ele, o clone é basicamente um conjunto de indivíduos descendentes de uma célula, conjunto de células, moléculas ou organismos geneticamente iguais à de um indivíduo matriz. A clonagem é o processo nato ou artificial de produção de clone. O processo de clonagem natural ocorre em alguns seres, como as bactérias e outros organismos unicelulares que realizam sua reprodução pelo método da bipartição. Além disso, o tatu também produz um clone através da poliembrionia. No caso dos humanos, os clones naturais são os gêmeos univitelinos, ou seja, são seres que compartilham do mesmo material genético, sendo originado da divisão do óvulo fecundado. Existem várias técnicas de clonagem artificial. Uma delas permite clonar um animal a partir de óvulos não fecundados, sendo este processo conhecido desde o século XIX.
