Miasmatic theory

Teoria miasmática

The miasmatic theory or miasmatic theory of diseases was a biological theory formulated by Thomas Sydenham and Giovanni María Lancisi during the seventeenth century. According to the theory, the diseases would have originated in the miasmas: the set of fetid odors coming from putrefying organic matter in contaminated soil and groundwater. At the moment it is considered an obsolete, to the being consensual and accepted Microbial Theory. A teoria miasmática ou teoria miasmática das doenças foi uma teoria biológica formulada por Thomas Sydenham e Giovanni María Lancisi durante o século XVII. Segundo a teoria, as doenças teriam origem nos miasmas: o conjunto de odores fétidos provenientes de matéria orgânica em putrefacção nos solos e lençóis freáticos contaminados. Actualmente é considerada uma obsoleta, ao ser consensual e aceite a Teoria Microbiana.
