In Rome, the Fates are three goddesses: Ninth, Tenth, and Dead. They determine the course of human life, deciding issues such as life and death, so that even Jupiter can not contest their decisions. Ninth weaves the thread of life, Tenth takes care of its length and way, Dead cuts the thread. They are also called fates, hence the term fatality. Interesting to note that in Rome one had the solar calendar structure for years, and lunar for the current months. The human pregnancy is nine moons, not nine months; therefore Nona weaves the thread of life in the maternal womb to the ninth moon; Tenth represents the actual birth, the cut of the umbilical cord, the beginning of earthly life, the definite individual, the tenth moon. Dead is the other end, the end of earthly life, which may occur at any moment.

Em Roma, as Parcas são três deusas: Nona, Décima e Morta. Determinam o curso da vida humana, decidindo questões como vida e morte, de maneira que nem Júpiter pode contestar suas decisões. Nona tece o fio da vida, Décima cuida de sua extensão e caminho, Morta corta o fio. São também designadas fates, daí o termo fatalidade. Interessante notar que em Roma se tinha a estrutura de calendário solar para os anos, e lunar para os atuais meses. A gravidez humana é de nove luas, não nove meses; portanto Nona tece o fio da vida no útero materno, até a nona lua; Décima representa o nascimento efetivo, o corte do cordão umbilical, o início da vida terrena, o individuo definido, a décima lua. Morta é a outra extremidade, o fim da vida terrena, que pode ocorrer a qualquer momento.
