Celts

Celți

The Celts were groups of ancient tribes that used one of the Celtic languages. The same term is used to designate other peoples whose spoken language is unknown but which have cultural ties to the Celtic world, links proven by archaeological discoveries. Celtic languages are part of the linguistic group "kentum". Historical theories state that these factors indicate the common origin, but recent theories of cultural influences on native peoples have recently been supported by genetic studies. Although Roman conquests the Continental Celts to adopt Roman culture, the development of Celtic Christianity in Ireland and the United Kingdom has brought about a medieval revival of Celtic culture between the years 400-1200. The interests of the 17th Century antiquities led to the development and affirmation of the word "celt", and the development of nationalism led to a Celtic revival in the nineteenth century, in areas where Celtic languages were still spoken.
