Deadwood is an American TV series created in the genres of historical drama, Western which was created, produced and mostly written by David Milch. It premiered on the HBO channel from March 21, 2004 to August 27, 2006, during 3 seasons of 12 episodes each. The action takes place in the 1870s in Deadwood, South Dakota, during the Gold Hills golden chase before the annexation of the Dakota Territory. The series depicts the growth of Deadwood from the out-of-town campus to the city, a theme that incorporates the formation of communities within Western capitalism. The show has a large cast as a whole, and several historical characters appear as serial characters such as Seth Bullock, Al Swearengen, Wild Bill Hickok, Sol Star, Calamity Jane, Wyatt Earp, George Crook, EB Farnum, Charlie Utter, Jack McCall and George Hearst. The script presents these characters in historical truths interwoven with substantial fictitious elements.
