măcéș (măcéși), s. m. – Trandafir-sălbatic (Rosa canina). – Var. măcieș. Megl. măceș. Origine îndoielnică. Poate dintr-un bg. mečeška (šipka), plantă. Arbustul se numește în bg. diva šipka „trandafir sălbatic”, dar cf. numele lat. și sp. Cf. și slov. macés(en) „zadă”. Alte explicații sînt insuficiente: de la mărăciniș (Crețu 345); din sb. mekuša „măr sau pară moale” (Cihac, II, 180), legat de măci; din mag. Mátyás „Matei”, ipoteză care nu explică megl. (Tiktin; Scriban). – Der. măceșe (var. măceașă), s. f. (fructul măceșului).
