ETYMOLOGY OF THE WORD MÚRSĂ

múrsă (múrse), s. f.1. Hidromel, melasă cu apă. – 2. Dulceață, partea dulce a unui lucru. – 3. Pulpă de fructe. Origine îndoielnică. Dacă ideea inițială e cea de „dulce”, ar trebui legat de sb. mrs, „zi de dulce”, cf. rom. „dulce” cu același sens; sb. mrsiti „a mînca carne”; bg. mărsjă „a mînca carne în zi prohibită”, rom. a se îndulci. Der. din lat. mulsa „hidromel” (Tiktin; Candrea; Scriban) nu e posibilă fonetic (cf. Graur, BL, V, 106); explicația schimbăriil lui lr prin intermediul unei influențe gr., cf. sicil. ammursatu „vin dulce” (Diculescu, Elementele, 436), nu pare convingătoare. Dacă acest cuvînt este identic cu mursă, s. f. (benghi, mișină, scobitură pe dinții cailor), după cum pare, atunci se poate presupune că înv., pentru a se obține alunițe artificiale pe față, se folosea pulpa unui anumit fruct; cel de-al doilea sens se explică ușor prin analogie (după Candrea și Scriban, din lat. morsa „mușcătură”).
