Der. din rus. vica (Weigand, BA, III, 109) este total improbabilă, deoarece cultivarea viței de vie nu este proprie țărilor sl. Pentru trecerea semantică de la ideea de „lăstar” la cea de „smoc”, cf. sp. guedejalat. viticula.Der. vițion, s. n. (smoc); vițos, adj. (mițos). Din rom. provin ngr. βίτσα (Meyer, Neugr.
