Abertura
En óptica, una abertura es un agujero o una abertura a través de la cual la luz viaja. Más específicamente, la abertura de un sistema óptico es la abertura que determina el ángulo cónico de un haz de rayos que llegan a un foco en el plano de la imagen. La abertura determina la colimación de los rayos admitidos, lo cual es de gran importancia para la apariencia en el plano de la imagen. Si una abertura es estrecha, entonces los rayos altamente colimados son admitidos, dando por resultado un foco agudo en el plano de la imagen. Si una abertura es ancha, entonces los rayos no colimados son admitidos, resultando en un enfoque fuerte sólo para los rayos con una cierta distancia focal. Esto significa que una amplia apertura da lugar a una imagen que es aguda alrededor de lo que el objetivo se está enfocando y borrosa de lo contrario. La abertura también determina cuántos de los rayos entrantes son realmente admitidos y, por tanto, cuánta luz alcanza el plano de la imagen. En el ojo humano, la pupila es la abertura. Un sistema óptico típicamente tiene muchas aberturas, o estructuras que limitan los haces de rayos.
