Los Cagots eran una minoría perseguida y despreciada que se encuentra en el oeste de Francia y el norte de España: los Pirineos Navarros, las provincias vascas, Béarn, Aragón, Gascuña y Bretaña. Su nombre ha diferido por provincia y el dialecto local: Cagots, Gézitains, Gahets, y Gafets en Gascuña; Agotes, Agotac y Gafos en el País Vasco; Capots en Anjou y Languedoc; Y Cacons, Cahets, Caqueux, y Caquins en Bretaña. La evidencia del grupo existe hacia atrás hasta el 1000 dC Los cagots fueron rechazados y odiados. Se les exigió vivir en barrios separados en las ciudades, llamadas cagoterías, que a menudo se encontraban en las afueras de los pueblos.
