Depside
Un depside es un tipo de compuesto polifenólico compuesto de dos o más unidades aromáticas monocíclicas unidas por un enlace éster. Los depsides se encuentran con mayor frecuencia en los líquenes, pero también se han aislado de las plantas superiores, incluyendo especies de las Ericaceae, Lamiaceae, Papaveraceae y Myrtaceae. Depsides tienen actividad antibiótica, anti-VIH, antioxidante y anti-proliferativa. Como inhibidores de la síntesis de prostaglandinas y de la biosíntesis de leucotrienos B4, los depsidas son potentes antiinflamatorios no esteroideos. Una depsidasa es un tipo de enzima que corta los enlaces depsides. Una enzima de este tipo es la tanasa. El ácido girofórico, que se encuentra en el líquen Cryptothecia rubrocincta, es un depside.
