Eutrofización
La eutrofización o más precisamente la hipertrofia, es la respuesta del ecosistema a la adición de sustancias artificiales o naturales, tales como nitratos y fosfatos, a través de fertilizantes o aguas residuales, a un sistema acuático. Un ejemplo es la "floración" o gran aumento del fitoplancton en un cuerpo de agua como respuesta a niveles crecientes de nutrientes. Efectos ambientales negativos incluyen hipoxia, el agotamiento de oxígeno en el agua, lo que provoca una reducción en peces específicos y otros animales. Otras especies pueden experimentar un aumento en la población que afecta negativamente a otras especies.
