Giaour o Gawur o Ghiaour, escrito gâvur en turco moderno, es una religión ofensiva religiosa ya veces étnica utilizada por los musulmanes en Turquía y los Balcanes para describir a todos los que no son musulmanes, con especial referencia a poblaciones cristianas cercanas como griegos, armenios, búlgaros , Los serbios, los macedonios étnicos, los rumanos y los asirios. El término es considerado altamente ofensivo por los cristianos en los Balcanes. La Enciclopedia Británica de 1911 describió el término como sigue: Giaour, una palabra utilizada por los turcos para describir a todos los que no son musulmanes, con referencia especial a los cristianos. La palabra, empleada primero como término de desprecio y reproche, se ha vuelto tan general que en la mayoría de los casos no se pretende insultar en su uso; De manera similar, en partes de China, el término diablo extranjero se ha convertido en vacío de ofensa. Una analogía estricta con el giaour se encuentra en el kafir árabe, o no creyente, que es tan comúnmente utilizado como para convertirse en el nombre propio de los pueblos y países.
