En el transporte marítimo comercial, el tiempo de espera es la cantidad de tiempo permitido en una carta de viaje para la carga y descarga de carga. Si se sobrepasa el tiempo de espera, se supone un sobreestado. Si no se necesita todo el período de aplazamiento, el armador puede pagar el flete al fletador, dependiendo de los términos del contrato de fletamento.
