Terai
El Terai es un cinturón de praderas pantanosas, sabanas y bosques ubicados al sur de las estribaciones exteriores del Himalaya, las Colinas de Siwalik y al norte de la Llanura Indo-Gangetica del Ganges, Brahmaputra y sus afluentes. El Terai pertenece a la sabana Terai-Duar y la ecorregión de los pastizales. En el norte de la India, el Terai se extiende hacia el este desde el río Yamuna a través de Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh y Bihar. Las partes correspondientes de Bengala Occidental, Bangladesh, Bhután y Assam al este del Río Brahmaputra se llaman Dooars. Las llanuras de tierras bajas del Terai se encuentran a una altitud de entre 67 y 300 m. Al norte del Terai se alza el Bhabhar, un estrecho pero continuo cinturón de bosque de unos 8-12 km de ancho.
