Agglutinine
Une agglutinine est une substance qui fait coaguler les particules pour former une masse épaissie. Les agglutinines peuvent être des anticorps qui provoquent l'agrégation des antigènes en se liant aux sites de liaison aux antigènes des anticorps. Les agglutinines peuvent également être une substance autre que des anticorps tels que les lectines de protéines liées au sucre. Les agglutinines fonctionnent en agglutant les particules provoquant la transition des particules de l'état fluide à l'état de masse épaissie. Lorsqu'une agglutinine est ajoutée à une suspension uniforme de particules telles que des bactéries ou du sang, l'agglutinine se lie à la structure spécifique de l'agglutinine sur la particule, ce qui amène les particules à s'accumuler et à descendre au fond en laissant une suspension claire. Ce phénomène connu sous le nom d'agglutination est d'une grande importance pour le monde médical car il sert d'outil de diagnostic.
