Ackee
L'ackee, également connu comme achee, ackee apple ou akee est un membre des Sapindaceae, tout comme le litchi et le longan. Il est originaire de l'Afrique occidentale tropicale au Cameroun, au Gabon, à São Tomé et Príncipe, au Bénin, au Burkina Faso, en Côte d'Ivoire, au Ghana, en Guinée, en Guinée-Bissau, au Mali, au Nigéria, au Sénégal, en Sierra Leone et au Togo. Le nom scientifique honore le capitaine William Bligh qui a pris le fruit de la Jamaïque aux Royal Botanic Gardens à Kew, en Angleterre en 1793 et l'a introduit dans la science. Le nom commun est dérivé de l'Afrique de l'Ouest Akan akye fufo. Le fruit a été importé en Jamaïque depuis l'Afrique de l'Ouest avant 1778. Depuis, il est devenu une caractéristique majeure de diverses cuisines caribéennes et est également cultivé dans des régions tropicales et subtropicales ailleurs dans le monde.
