Anode
Une anode est une électrode à travers laquelle une charge électrique positive s'écoule dans un dispositif électrique polarisé. Le courant de charge est un courant électrique. Un mnémonique commun est ACID pour Anode Current Into Device; La notion clé est qu'un courant positif s'écoule dans le dispositif; Des charges positives entrent dans l'appareil via l'anode. Il y a une complication car un courant transmet souvent des électrons et la charge sur un électron est négative. La charge positive qui s'écoule dans l'anode est la même que celle des électrons qui sortent de l'anode. Par conséquent, la direction du courant électrique est opposée à la direction du flux d'électrons: les électrons s'écoulent hors de l'anode vers le circuit extérieur. Une idée fausse répandue est que la polarité de l'anode est toujours positive. Ceci est souvent mal déduit du fait que, dans tous les dispositifs électrochimiques, les anions chargés négativement se déplacent vers l'anode. En fait, par la définition universelle ci-dessus du sens du courant électrique, la polarité de l'anode dépend du type d'appareil et, parfois, même de son mode de fonctionnement.
