Dans la chimie organique, l'aromatique est une propriété chimique décrivant la manière dont un cycle conjugué de liaisons insaturées, de paires isolées ou d'orbitales vides présente une stabilisation plus forte que ce qui serait attendu par la stabilisation de la conjugaison seule. L'utilisation la plus ancienne du terme était dans un article d'August Wilhelm Hofmann en 1855. Il n'y a pas de relation générale entre l'aromatiqueité en tant que propriété chimique et les propriétés olfactives de ces composés. L'aromatique peut également être considérée comme une manifestation de la délocalisation cyclique et de la résonance. Ceci est généralement considéré comme étant donné que les électrons sont libres de circuler autour d'arrangements circulaires d'atomes qui sont alternativement uniques et doublés l'un à l'autre. Ces liens peuvent être considérés comme un hybride d'une liaison simple et d'une double liaison, chaque liaison dans l'anneau étant identique à l'autre.
