Ascomycota
Ascomycota est une division / Phylum du royaume Champignons qui, avec les Basidiomycota, forment le sous-domaine Dikarya. Ses membres sont communément appelés les champignons du sac. Ils sont le plus grand phylum des champignons, avec plus de 64 000 espèces. La caractéristique définitive de ce groupe fongique est le "ascus" (du grec: ἀσκός (askos), signifiant "sac" ou "veste"), une structure sexuelle microscopique dans laquelle sont formées des spores non mouiles, appelées ascospores. Cependant, certaines espèces d'Ascomycota sont asexuées, ce qui signifie qu'elles n'ont pas de cycle sexuel et ne forment donc pas d'asci ou d'ascospores. Précédemment placé dans le Deuteromycota avec des espèces asexuées d'autres taxons fongiques, les ascomycètes asexués (ou anamorphiques) sont maintenant identifiés et classés en fonction de similitudes morphologiques ou physiologiques avec des taxons ascendant et par des analyses phylogénétiques des séquences d'ADN. Les ascomycètes sont un groupe monophylétique, c'est-à-dire que tous ses membres remontent à un ancêtre commun.
