Le terme «Augustins», nommé d'après saint Augustin d'Hippopotame, s'applique à deux types d'ordres religieux catholiques séparés et indépendants: plusieurs Ordres mendiants des frères, qui ont vécu une vie religieuse mixte de contemplation et de ministère apostolique et suivent la Règle de saint Augustin, Document bref fournissant des directives pour vivre dans une communauté religieuse. Le plus grand et le plus familier, connu sous le nom Hermits de saint Augustin et aussi comme les frères d'Austin, est maintenant simplement appelé l'Ordre de saint Augustin. Deux autres Ordres, les Augustins Recollections et les Augustins Décalés, faisaient autrefois partie de l'Ordre Augustinien sous un seul Prior Général.
