Bacille
Bacillus est un genre de Gram-positif, en forme de tige, de bactéries et membre du phylum Firmicutes. Les espèces de Bacillus peuvent être des aérobies obligatoires, ou des anaérobies facultatifs. Ils testeront positif pour l'enzyme catalase quand il y a eu de l'oxygène utilisé ou présent. De nature omniprésente, Bacillus comprend à la fois des espèces pathogènes parasites et parasites. Dans des conditions environnementales stressantes, les bactéries peuvent produire des endospores ovales qui ne sont pas de vraies spores, mais que les bactéries peuvent se réduire et rester dans un état inactif pendant de très longues périodes. De nombreuses espèces de Bacillus peuvent produire de nombreuses quantités d'enzymes utilisées dans différentes industries. Certaines espèces de Bacillus peuvent former des inclusions intracellulaires de polyhydroxyalcanoates dans certaines conditions environnementales défavorables, comme dans le cas d'un manque d'éléments tels que le phosphore, l'azote ou l'oxygène combiné à une offre excessive de sources de carbone. B.subtilis s'est avéré un modèle précieux pour la recherche.
