Démolition
La démolition est la déchirure des bâtiments et d'autres structures. La démolition contraste avec la déconstruction, ce qui implique de séparer un bâtiment tout en préservant soigneusement les éléments précieux pour la réutilisation. Les méthodes plus récentes peuvent utiliser des cisailles hydrauliques rotatives et des briseuses silencieuses attachées aux excavatrices pour couper ou traverser le bois, l'acier et le béton. L'utilisation de cisailles est particulièrement fréquente lorsque la coupe à la flamme serait dangereuse. Le bâtiment le plus élevé démoli par des méthodes non terroristes était l'édifice Singer de 47 étages à New York, construit en 1908 et détruit en 1967-1968 pour être remplacé par One Liberty Plaza.
