La preuve empirique est une information qui justifie une croyance en la vérité ou le faux d'une revendication empirique. Dans la vision empirique, on peut prétendre avoir connaissance seulement quand on a une vraie croyance basée sur des preuves empiriques. Cela contraste avec la vue rationaliste selon laquelle la raison ou la réflexion est seule considérée comme une preuve de la vérité ou du faux de certaines propositions. Les sens sont la principale source de preuves empiriques. Dans ce contexte, le terme semi-empirique est utilisé pour des méthodes théoriques de qualification qui utilisent en partie des axiomes de base ou des lois scientifiques postulées et des résultats expérimentaux.
