Gambit
Un gambit est une ouverture d'échecs dans laquelle un joueur, plus souvent blanc, sacrifie du matériel, habituellement un pion, dans l'espoir d'atteindre une position avantageuse. Quelques exemples bien connus sont le King's Gambit, Queen's Gambit et Evans Gambit. Un gambit utilisé par Black peut également être appelé un gambit, mais est parfois appelé un "countergambit". Le mot «gambit» a d'abord été appliqué aux ouvertures d'échecs en 1561 par le prêtre espagnol Ruy López de Segura, d'une expression italienne dare il gambetto. López a étudié cette manœuvre, et le mot italien a gagné la forme espagnole qui a conduit à un gambit français, qui a influencé l'orthographe anglaise du mot. Le sens plus large de «mouvement d'ouverture pour gagner de l'avantage» a été enregistré pour la première fois en anglais en 1855.
