Gray Owl était le nom d'Archibald Belaney adopté lorsqu'il a pris une identité des Premières Nations en tant qu'adulte. Né en Angleterre en tant qu'Archibald Stansfeld Belaney et migrant au Canada au cours de la première décennie du 20ème siècle, il est devenu un éminent auteur, conférencier et l'un des «apôtres les plus efficaces de la nature sauvage».
