Guyenne
La Guyenne ou la Guienne est une région historique vaguement définie du sud-ouest de la France qui constitue la base d'une grande province de France pré-révolutionnaire appelée la province de Guyenne, parfois appelée Guyenne et Gascogne. Le nom de Guyenne vient de la Guyane occitane, qui est lui-même une corruption du mot Aquitaine. Cependant, les mots Aquitaine et Guyenne sont venus indiquer différentes entités. La région de Guyenne a également été confondue avec la région de Gascogne jusqu'à ce qu'elle ait pris une identité distincte au 17ème siècle. À partir de cette époque, «Guyenne et Gascogne» était un terme commun correspondant à peu près au nord de l'Aquitaine. Le duché de Guyenne apparaît pour la première fois dans le traité de Paris de 1229 qui a mis fin à la croisade albigeoise et peut-être été créé par ce traité. La capitale était Bordeaux. Le duché était sous les rois d'Angleterre, comme Guyenne était depuis 1154 et est resté vassal anglais jusqu'à 1453. En 1453, il devint un terrain directement sous la couronne française, sauf de 1469 à 1472 lorsqu'il fut accordé à Charles de Valois.
