Hemichromis est un genre de poissons issus de la famille des cichlidés, connu dans le commerce de l'aquarium en tant que cichlidés à bijoux. Les cichlidés à bijoux sont originaires d'Afrique. En Afrique de l'Ouest, les espèces Hemichromis se retrouvent dans les ruisseaux, les ruisseaux, les rivières et les lacs avec une variété de qualités d'eau, y compris les lagunes d'eau saumâtre. Dans certaines espèces, comme Hemichromis cristatus, les femelles peuvent avoir une coloration aussi brillante que les mâles. Comme la plupart des cichlidés, les cichlidés à bijoux ont des soins géniteurs très développés.
