Jitter
Jitter est l'écart indésirable de la périodicité réelle d'un signal périodique supposé dans l'électronique et les télécommunications, souvent par rapport à une source d'horloge de référence. La gigue peut être observée dans des caractéristiques telles que la fréquence des impulsions successives, l'amplitude du signal ou la phase des signaux périodiques. Jitter est un facteur important et généralement indésirable dans la conception de presque tous les liens de communication. Dans les applications de récupération d'horloge, on l'appelle déclenchement temporel. La jitter peut être quantifiée dans les mêmes termes que tous les signaux variables dans le temps, par exemple, RMS ou un déplacement de pic à pic. Tout comme d'autres signaux variant dans le temps, la gigue peut être exprimée en termes de densité spectrale. La période de jitter est l'intervalle entre deux fois l'effet maximum d'une caractéristique de signal qui varie régulièrement avec le temps. La fréquence de gigue, le chiffre le plus cité, est son inverse. L'UIT-T G.810 classe les fréquences de gigue inférieures à 10 Hz à l'écart et aux fréquences égales ou supérieures à 10 Hz en tant que jitter. La gigue peut être provoquée par des interférences électromagnétiques et une diaphonie avec des porteurs d'autres signaux.
