Kea
Le Kea est une grande espèce de perroquets trouvés dans les régions boisées et alpines de l'île du Sud de la Nouvelle-Zélande. Environ 48 cm de long, il est principalement vert olive avec une orange brillante sous ses ailes et a un bec supérieur grand, étroit, incurvé, gris-brun. Le Kea est le seul perroquet alpin du monde. Son régime omnivore comprend la charogne, mais se compose principalement de racines, de feuilles, de baies, de nectar et d'insectes. Maintenant, le Kea était autrefois tué pour générosité en raison des préoccupations de la communauté des élevages de moutons qu'il a attaqué le bétail, en particulier le mouton. Il n'a reçu une protection complète qu'en 1986. Le Kea niche dans les terriers ou les crevasses parmi les racines des arbres. Kea sont connus pour leur intelligence et leur curiosité, tous deux essentiels à leur survie dans un environnement de montagne sévère.
