Ressort à lames
Un ressort à la feuille est une forme simple de ressort couramment utilisé pour la suspension dans les véhicules à roues. À l'origine appelé un ressort stratifié ou de chariot, et parfois appelé ressort semi-elliptique ou chariot, il est l'une des formes les plus anciennes de printemps, datant de l'époque médiévale. Un ressort à lame prend la forme d'une longueur mince en arc d'acier à section transversale rectangulaire. Le centre de l'arc fournit l'emplacement de l'essieu, tandis que les trous de cravate sont prévus à chaque extrémité pour attacher à la carrosserie du véhicule. Pour les véhicules très lourds, un ressort à lames peut être fabriqué à partir de plusieurs feuilles empilées l'une sur l'autre en plusieurs couches, souvent avec des feuilles progressivement plus courtes. Les ressorts à lames peuvent servir à localiser et, dans une certaine mesure, à amortir ainsi que des fonctions élastiques. Alors que le frottement intercalaire provoque une action d'amortissement, il n'est pas bien contrôlé et entraîne une diminution du mouvement de la suspension. Pour cette raison, les fabricants ont expérimenté des ressorts mono-feuilles.
