Lentigo
Un lentigo est un petit point pigmenté sur la peau avec un bord clairement défini, entouré d'une peau apparente normale. C'est une hyperplasie inoffensive des mélanocytes qui est linéaire dans sa propagation. Cela signifie que l'hyperplasie des mélanocytes est limitée à la couche cellulaire directement au-dessus de la membrane basale de l'épiderme où les mélanocytes habitent normalement. Cela contraste avec les «nids» de mélanocytes multicouches trouvés dans les taupes. En raison de cette caractéristique, l'adjectif «lentiginous» est utilisé pour décrire d'autres lésions cutanées qui prolifèrent de manière similaire linéairement dans la couche de cellule basale. Les lentigines se distinguent des taches de rousseur basées sur la prolifération des mélanocytes. Les taches de rousseur ont un nombre relativement normal de mélanocytes mais une quantité accrue de mélanine. Un lentigo a un nombre accru de mélanocytes. Les taches de rousseur augmenteront en nombre et en noir avec l'exposition au soleil, tandis que les lentigines resteront stables dans leur couleur, quelle que soit l'exposition au soleil.
