Long Parliament
Le Long Parlement d'Angleterre, après le fiasco du Parlement court, a suivi ses 12 ans de suspension, a été créé le 3 novembre 1640 pour passer les factures financières, suite aux guerres épiscopales. Il a reçu son nom du fait que, par le biais d'une loi du Parlement, il ne pouvait être dissous qu'avec l'accord des membres et ces membres n'étaient pas d'accord avec sa dissolution avant la guerre civile anglaise et à la fin d'Interregnum le 16 Mars 1660. Il s'est assis de 1640 à 1648, quand il a été purgé par la New Model Army. Dans le chaos suivant la mort d'Oliver Cromwell en 1658, le général George Monck a permis aux membres interdits en 1648 de reprendre leurs sièges, afin qu'ils puissent adopter la législation nécessaire pour permettre la restauration et dissoudre le Long Parliament. Cela a permis d'élire un nouveau Parlement, connu sous le nom de Parlement de la Convention. Mais, beaucoup de ces membres originaux de Long Parliament, tels qu'ils ont été empêchés des actes définitifs du Long Parliament, ont affirmé que le Long Parliament n'a jamais été dissous légalement.
