Netsuke
Netsuke sont des sculptures miniatures qui ont été inventées au Japon du XVIIe siècle pour servir une fonction pratique. Les robes de vêtements japonaises traditionnelles appelées kosode et kimono - n'avaient pas de poches; Cependant, les hommes qui les portaient avaient besoin d'un endroit pour stocker leurs effets personnels, tels que les tuyaux, le tabac, l'argent, les phoques ou les médicaments. Leur solution consistait à placer de tels objets dans des conteneurs accrochés par des cordes aux rayures des robes. Les conteneurs peuvent avoir été des poches ou de petits paniers tissés, mais les plus populaires étaient des boîtes magnifiquement conçues, qui étaient maintenues fermées par ojime, qui portait des perles glissantes sur des cordes. Quelle que soit la forme du conteneur, l'attache qui a fixé le cordon au sommet du châssis était une molette sculptée en forme de bouton appelée netsuke. Netsuke, comme l'inrō et l'ojime, ont évolué au fil du temps d'être strictement utilitaire dans des objets de grand mérite artistique et une expression d'artisanat extraordinaire. De tels objets ont une longue histoire reflétant les aspects importants du folklore et de la vie japonais. La production de Netsuke a été la plus populaire au cours de la période Edo au Japon, vers 1615-1868.
