Parménides
Parmenides d'Elea était un ancien philosophe grec né à Elea, une ville grecque sur la côte méridionale de Magna Graecia. Il a été le fondateur de l'école Eleatic de philosophie. La seule œuvre connue de Parménides est un poème, On Nature, qui n'a survécu que sous forme fragmentaire. Dans ce poème, Parménides décrit deux vues de la réalité. Dans «la voie de la vérité», il explique comment la réalité est un, le changement est impossible et l'existence est intemporelle, uniforme, nécessaire et immuable. Dans «la voie de l'opinion», il explique le monde des apparences, dans lequel ses facultés sensorielles conduisent à des conceptions fausses et trompeuses. Ces idées ont eu un fort effet sur Platon et, à leur tour, ont influencé toute la philosophie occidentale.
