Punique
Les Puniques étaient un groupe de peuples occidentaux de langue sémitique de Carthage en Afrique du Nord qui ont tracé leurs origines à un groupe de colons phéniciens, mais aussi aux Berbères nord-africains. Contrairement à d'autres Phéniciens, le Punique possédait une aristocratie foncière qui établissait une règle de l'arrière-pays en Afrique du Nord et les traditions trans-Sahara. Plus tard, l'un de ces clans a conquis un empire d'inspiration hellénistique en Iberia, peut-être dans la Gaule occidentale. Comme d'autres Phéniciens, leur culture et leur économie urbaines étaient fortement liées à la mer. À l'étranger, ils ont établi le contrôle de certaines régions côtières de l'Afrique du Nord berbère comme la Tunisie moderne et la Tripolitaine, la Sardaigne, la Corse, la Sicile, les Baléares, Malte, d'autres petites îles de la Méditerranée occidentale et éventuellement le long de la côte atlantique d'Iberia, bien que cela soit contesté. Aux Baléares, en Sardaigne, en Corse et en Sicile, ils avaient de solides liens économiques et politiques avec les indigènes indépendants dans l'arrière-pays. Leur présence navale et leur commerce se sont étendus dans toute la Méditerranée jusqu'aux îles britanniques, aux Canaries et en Afrique de l'Ouest.
