Rhénium
Le rhénium est un élément chimique avec le symbole Re et le numéro atomique 75. Il s'agit d'un métal de transition à la troisième rangée, blanc argenté, dans le groupe 7 de la table périodique. Avec une concentration moyenne estimée de 1 partie par milliard, le rhénium est l'un des éléments les plus rares de la croûte terrestre. L'élément libre possède le troisième point de fusion le plus élevé et le point d'ébullition le plus élevé de n'importe quel élément. Le rhénium ressemble chimiquement au manganèse et au technétium et est obtenu en tant que sous-produit de l'extraction et du raffinement du minerai de molybdène et du cuivre. Le rhénium montre dans ses composés une grande variété d'états d'oxydation allant de -1 à +7. Découvert en 1925, le rhénium était le dernier élément stable à découvrir. Il a été nommé d'après le Rhin du Rhin en Europe. Les superalliages à base de nickel du rhénium sont utilisés dans les chambres de combustion, les pales de turbine et les buses d'échappement des moteurs à réaction. Ces alliages contiennent jusqu'à 6% de rhénium, rendant la construction de moteurs à réaction la plus grande utilisation unique pour l'élément, les utilisations catalytiques de l'industrie chimique étant les plus importantes.
