Sécularisation
La sécularisation ou la sécularisation est la transformation d'une société d'une identification étroite avec des valeurs et des institutions religieuses envers des valeurs non religieuses et des institutions laïques. La thèse de la sécularisation se réfère à la conviction que, au fur et à mesure que les sociétés progressent, en particulier par la modernisation et la rationalisation, la religion perd son autorité dans tous les aspects de la vie sociale et de la gouvernance. Le terme «sécularisation» est également utilisé dans le contexte de la levée des restrictions monastiques d'un membre du clergé. La sécularisation a beaucoup de sens, à la fois en tant que théorie et processus historique. Les théoriciens sociaux tels que Karl Marx, Sigmund Freud, Max Weber et Émile Durkheim ont postulé que la modernisation de la société inclurait un déclin des niveaux de religiosité. L'étude de ce processus vise à déterminer la manière dont, dans quelle mesure, les croyances, les pratiques et les institutions religieuses perdent leur importance sociale. Certains théoriciens font valoir que la sécularisation de la civilisation moderne résulte en partie de notre incapacité à adapter les besoins éthiques et spirituels généraux de l'humanité à l'avancement de plus en plus rapide des sciences physiques.
