Simarouba
Simarouba est un genre d'arbres et d'arbustes dans la famille Simaroubaceae, originaire des néotropes. Il a été regroupé sous la sous-tribune Simaroubina avec les genres Simaba et Quassia. Ils ont des feuilles composées, avec entre 1 et 12 paires de tracts pinnés alternés. Leurs fleurs sont unisexuelles, relativement petites et disposées dans de grandes panicules. Les fleurs individuelles ont entre 4 et 6 sépales et pétales et entre 8 et 12 étamines. Le fruit est un carpophore et possède jusqu'à 5 Mericarps drupaceous. Adolf Engler et Arthur Cronquist ont séparé les espèces du genre, fondées principalement sur la morphologie de leurs fleurs, mais aussi en utilisant des différences dans leur structure foliaire. S. amara, S. glauca et S. versicolor sont des espèces d'arbres continentaux et sont souvent confondus les uns avec les autres, en particulier dans les régions où plus d'une espèce est présente dans la flore. S. amara peut être distingué par des fleurs et des anthères plus petites que S. glauca et S. versicolor et en ayant des pétales droits, plutôt que courbes; Ses fruits sont également plus petits. S.
