Stringhalt
Stringhalt est une flexion soudaine d'une ou des deux pattes postérieures dans le cheval, le plus facilement vu pendant que le cheval marche ou fait du trot. Il est plus évident lorsque le cheval s'appuie lentement, en allumant la jambe affectée ou soudainement effrayé. Il peut impliquer une ou les deux pattes postérieures du cheval. C'est une contraction spasmodique des tendons extensifs latéraux des pattes postérieures. Un exemple de stringhalt bilatéral dans un cheval: les jarrets sont spasmodiquement et rapidement fléchis avec les pieds élevés avant de retourner rapidement sur le sol. La condition est plus évidente lors du tournage et du retour. Il existe quatre formes de stringhalt: ▪ stringhalt australien: une flatweed est la cause suspecte ▪ Pseudostringhalt: le résultat apparent d'un état douloureux dans la jambe affectée ▪ Stringhalt unilatéral: cause inconnue, mais souvent soulagée par section du tendon de l'extenseur latéral ▪ Bilatéral Stringhalt: dans deux des deux chevaux affectés nécropsés, thalamus anormal Le traitement varie.
