Les termites sont un groupe d'insectes eusociaux qui, jusqu'à récemment, ont été classés au rang taxonomique de l'ordre des isoptères, mais sont maintenant acceptés comme infra-isoptères, de l'ordre des cafards Blattodea. Alors que les termites sont communément connues, en particulier en Australie, en tant que «fourmis blanches», elles sont à des fins pratiques indépendantes des fourmis. Comme les fourmis et les abeilles et les guêpes - qui sont tous placés dans l'ordre séparé, les Hyménoptères-termites divisent le travail entre les castes, produisent des générations qui se chevauchent et s'occupent de jeunes collectivement.
