Filip Melanchthon - réformateur religieux, le plus proche collaborateur de Martin Luther, co-fondateur de la Réforme, professeur à l'université de Wittenberg, réorganisé l'éducation et a introduit l'école humaniste en Allemagne, qui est devenue une norme pour les écoles de Silésie et de Poméranie. Il a étudié les langues classiques et la littérature ancienne dans les universités de Heidelberg et de Tübingen. En 1514, il a commencé à donner des conférences à l'Université de Tübingen. De 1518 à la fin de sa vie, il a rejoint l'Université de Wittenberg. En 1530 au Reich Sejm à Augsbourg représenté Martin Luther. Dans un mémorandum de 1536, il appela à la mort même des anabaptistes pacifiquement disposés. Melanchon a aidé à accroître le rôle des mathématiques au cours des études universitaires. Dans les universités sous son influence, les mathématiques étaient considérées comme un domaine où la compétence devrait être démontrée par toute personne instruite, et pas seulement par le domaine des spécialistes. Au début de son activité, en 1521, il propose de remplacer la lecture de la physique d'Aristote par un cours de mathématiques.

Filip Melanchton – reformator religijny, najbliższy współpracownik Marcina Lutra, współtwórca reformacji, profesor uniwersytetu w Wittenberdze, zreorganizował szkolnictwo i wprowadził szkołę humanistyczną w Niemczech, która stała się wzorcem dla szkół na Śląsku i Pomorzu. Studiował języki klasyczne oraz literaturę antyczną na uniwersytetach w Heidelbergu i Tybindze. W 1514 roku rozpoczął pracę wykładowcy na uniwersytecie w Tybindze. Od 1518 do końca życia związał się z uniwersytetem w Wittenberdze. W 1530 na sejmie Rzeszy w Augsburgu reprezentował Marcina Lutra. W memorandum z 1536 roku nawoływał on do karania śmiercią nawet pokojowo usposobionych anabaptystów. Melanchton przyczynił się do zwiększenia roli matematyki w toku studiów uniwersyteckich. W uniwersytetach znajdujących się pod jego wpływem matematykę uznawano za dziedzinę, w której biegłość powinien wykazywać każdy wykształcony człowiek, a nie jedynie domenę specjalistów. Na początku swojej działalności, w 1521 roku, proponował zastąpienie lektury Fizyki Arystotelesa kursem matematyki.
