Byhan, Jb., IV, 304), caz în care ar fi identic cu bolînd; dar opinia admisă în general este că, dimpotrivă, rut. blynda, sb. blanda și bg. blŭnda provin din rom. (Candrea, Elemente, 407; Capidan, Raporturile, 230). A îmblînzi, vb., considerat de Pușcariu 779 ca der. dintr-un lat. *blandῑre (‹ blandῑri), este mai curând o formație internă a rom. De asemenea se consideră în general că blîndețe, s. f. (gingășie, dulceață, bunătate) reprezintă lat. blandῑties (Pușcariu 207; Candrea-Dens., 165; REW 1150; DAR); dar este mai probabil o der. internă a rom. (cf. Graur, BL, V, 90), cu. var. blîndeție și blînzie, s. f. (înv., gingășie, dulceață).
