Stimulateur cardiaque
Un stimulateur cardiaque est un dispositif médical qui émet des impulsions électriques transmises par des électrodes qui sont en contact avec les muscles du cœur afin de réguler le rythme cardiaque. Le dispositif électronique miniaturisé émet une excitation rythmique régulière pour un cœur avec des centres physiologiques incapables de fournir une fréquence cardiaque normale. La brachicardie est l'une des pathologies les plus courantes qui entraînent la nécessité d'utiliser un stimulateur cardiaque, c'est-à-dire que la fréquence cardiaque est trop faible pour répondre aux besoins du corps. Les premiers pacemakers sont apparus et ont été implantés en 1958 par Siemens-Elema en Suède.
