Nella matematica, un gruppo amenabile è un gruppo topologico compatto localmente composto da un tipo di operazione di mediazione su funzioni limitate invariante in fase di traduzione da parte di elementi del gruppo. La definizione originale, in termini di misura invariante finitely additive su sottogruppi di G, è stata introdotta da John von Neumann nel 1929 sotto il nome tedesco "messbar" in risposta al paradosso Banach-Tarski. Nel 1949 Mahlon M. Day introdusse la traduzione inglese "amenable", apparentemente come una punta. La proprietà di amenità ha un gran numero di formulazioni equivalenti.
