La teoria dell'aspettativa suggerisce che un individuo deciderà di comportarsi o agire in un certo modo perché è motivato a selezionare un comportamento specifico rispetto ad altri comportamenti a causa di ciò che prevedono il risultato di quel comportamento selezionato. In sostanza, la motivazione della selezione del comportamento è determinata dalla desiderabilità del risultato.
