Graves
Graves è una sottoregione importante della regione vinicola di Bordeaux. Graves si trova sulla sponda sinistra del fiume Garonne, nella parte a monte della regione, a sud-est della città di Bordeaux e si estende per oltre 50 chilometri. Graves è l'unica regione suburbana di Bordeaux, famosa per tutti e tre i tipi di vino di Bordeaux: rossi, bianchi seccati e vini dolci, anche se i vini rossi dominano la produzione totale. Graves AOC è anche il nome di una delle Appellation d'origine contrôlée che copre la maggior parte, ma non tutta la sottoregione Graves. L'area comprende villaggi tra cui Sauternes, Pessac, Talence, Léognan, Martillac, Saint-Morillon e Portets. Il nome Graves deriva dal suo terreno intenso di ghiaia. Il suolo è il risultato di ghiacciai dell'era glaciale, che ha anche lasciato depositi di quarzo bianco che possono ancora essere trovati nel terreno di alcune delle migliori aziende vinicole.
